Grapes

How we got started

It all started when Richard and Marla Parish began researching the possibility of starting a vineyard in 2002. After two years of research they decided to start a vineyard of their own on their farm, Hickory Hill.

In 2004 they began by planting 700 Cabernet Sauvignon root stock purchased from Vintage Nurseries in California. In 2005 they planted expanded their vineyard by planting 100 Vidal Blanc root stock they purchased from Double A Vineyard in New York.

In 2006 Richard attended the Oklahoma State University Grape Management course in addition to completing courses in Viticulture and Enology at Redlands Community College.

For the last ten years Richard and Marla have been selling their grapes to wineries based in Oklahoma.

We specialize in the Cabernet Sauvignon but we have recently began expanding our vineyard to include the Vidal Blanc. We hope to continue expanding our vineyard to include more grape varieties.

The Cabernet Sauvignon

Our vineyard speciality is a French Vinifera grape.   Its long history has earned it being recognized as one of the world's most widely used red wine grape varieties.

Vidal Blanc

A hybrid white grape variety known for its fruity flavor.   It is a very winter-hardy grape that, in the right climate, is able to produce a high sugar level.

The Vineyard

Every spring we prune every individual plant back to two cordons.   Afterwords we let them bloom and prune them back again thoughout the summer.

The Artform

We employ a horizontal divided canopy, Geneva Double Curtain System.   Over the years, we have mangaged to turn the practice of grape growing into an artform.
